What is it?
NDC Translator is software that translates the raw data from a NDC barcode into a
usable NDC number format. This is a format usable by applications such as BPOC, BCMA and NDC billing. It is compatible with
hospital information systems and most models of barcode scanners (1D or 2D).
NDC Translator software sits between your scanner and pharmacy/BPOC/BCMA system and monitors the information coming in
from the scanner.
When you scan a barcode, it reviews the raw data. If it finds an NDC number,
it converts it into one of four user selected output formats and sends it over to the application requesting the NDC#.
The most commonly selected format is the 11 digit NDC number, e.g. 00056016870.
NDC Translator provides the user with quick entry of the NDC number needed for accurate
billing and documentation of the product used.
It can also be set up to output lot number/expiration date information. When the expiration date is included in the
bar code, the software will pop up an "Expired Drug" warning.
Who should use NDC Translator?
Anyone who needs to input NDC numbers into their software applications, such as:
- BPOC / BCMA
- Drug Repackaging
- Dispensing Documentation
- Drug Return and Disposal
- NDC Billing Compliance
- Inventory Management
